Jimmy Houston named as a lead artist for Pieces of Texas Project

Local artist of all mediums are being summoned to help create a collaborative piece for this year’s HFAF - Houston Fine Art Fair, taking place this September 9th through the 12th, 2015. An opportunity presented by the KCAM - Katy Contemporary Arts Museum, this endeavor entitled the 'PIECES OF TEXAS PROJECT' fuses together the creativity of artist in the greater Houston area.


Seeking to bring artist from all backgrounds, ability, age, and mediums together, KCAM proudly presents this call to action for those to take part in an eco friendly art collaboration representative of Houston, Texas - A place known for its urban sprawl, unparalleled innovation, and the largest number of artists in the state. 'Pieces of Texas' looks to assemble multiple expressions from various artists and combine them to make a statement as big as the Lone Star State.


A project first of its kind for this major art fair, fragments of artists work selected for this project will cumulate into the final sculpture on display at HFAF. Lead artists who will construct this artistic statement include Lee Benner, Mark Deleon, Roberta Harris, Jimmy Houston, Felipe Lopez, and Anuska Martinez.


Artists may enter one or more pieces into this call, with those works selected to be repurposed into the final sculptural product. The entry fee is $5 and there is no limit to entries by an individual artist. The 'Call for Pieces' will close on August 2nd, 2015 at midnight. The selected pieces will be delivered to KCAM by August 4th and then the assemblage of the sculpture project will begin. For rules, regulations, and additional info please visit: www.katycam.com


“'PIECES OF TEXAS PROJECT' resembles Houston, the most diverse city in the country where nothing is impossible and distances are measured in hours…”, states KCAM Museum Director and Curator Ana Villaronga-Roman. “The arts in the city and in the "burbs" are alive and here is the proof! Artists living in Katy, Cypress, West Houston, Sugar Land along with the greater Houston metropolitan area are now engaged and getting involved due to the partnership between KCAM and the Houston Fine Art Fair.”


After the debut of the ‘PIECES OF TEXAS PROJECT’ at the HFAF, a tour is in place for the prodigious sculpture starting at La Centerra Cinco Ranch. No Label Brewery, and other locations to be announced. The final stop will be at the Katy Contemporary Art Museum.
